Last week’s episode of Impact Wrestling kicked off a new era for the promotion, and they brought in former WWE star Alberto Del Rio, now known as Alberto El Patron, for a high profile match.
Alberto El Patron was immediately placed in the Impact Wrestling World Title picture, and he challenged Bobby Lashley for the belt during his first night with the company.
Both Bobby Lashley and Alberto El Patron gave it their best effort, but in the end Alberto walked out with the gold. However, the ending of the match wasn’t without controversy, as there were two ref bumps, and Alberto also hit Bobby Lashley with the World Title to win the match.
After everything was said and done, Alberto was announced as the winner, but he is no longer the champion.
Impact Wrestling has uploaded a new video to their YouTube channel showing a backstage meeting between Alberto El Patron, Bruce Prichard and Dutch Mantell. In the video Bruce Prichard tells Alberto that Impact Wrestling officials want him to relinquish the title.
Alberto El Patron protests at first, but then he agrees after Bruce asks Alberto what he thinks his dad would do. El Patron says he wants a rematch with Bobby Lashley, but Dutch Mantell tells him that it’s not up to him.
According to Dutch, they can’t force Bobby Lashley to put his title on the line, even though they’re the same Impact officials that are pretty much forcing Alberto to give up the belt. That’s some logic right there.
They then tell Alberto that if he wants a match with Lashley, he has to ask him for it, because apparently this new regime has several authority figures that don’t have the power to make World Title matches.
