Earlier today WWE announced that a mutual agreement had been reached with Alberto Del Rio, and that Del Rio is no longer under contract with the company.
Del Rio wasted no time speaking out about his departure as he called a press conference at a Hooters in Mexico City. Paige was in attendance for the press conference but she did not sit with Del Rio.
Alberto Del Rio told the press that he is on good terms with Vince McMahon and that he is grateful for the opportunities he was given. McMahon did not apply the 90 day no compete clause to their agreement, so Alberto is free to work in Mexico, and will soon be able to work in the United States.
The former WWE World Champion told the crowd that he is already talking with various organizations in Mexico. He also said that he will not be exclusive to any organization, and that if anyone wants to work with him, he will potentially work with them on a per-date basis.
“Tomorrow I will be having meetings with Mexican business owners do not want to be exclusive to anyone,” quote via SuperLuchas.com. “I already talked to everyone, with Dorian (Roldan) with Paco Alonso, with Elite League … if they want to Alberto, will be by date. I have learned from my mistakes and I will not be exclusive to anyone.”
He said that he loves wrestling, but he was losing his passion, and he told Vince he didn’t want to lose his passion. He has not ruled out a possible return to WWE someday.
Del Rio talked about how he wants to spend more time with his family, and he indicated that the WWE schedule was wearing on him. He told a story about one of his kids hiding his luggage because they didn’t want him to leave. He talked about wanting to spend more time at home, and also said that his career is winding down.
“I have two years in wrestling before my retirement. I will not make more than 60 dates around the world. I will not give more,” via SuperLuchas.com.
