Alberto Del Rio Says He Would Love To Have CM Punk In Combate Americas

Earlier this week Alberto Del Rio was appointed the president of MMA promotion Combates Americas, and Alberto recently spoke to the Roman Show about his new position with the company.

When asked if he would still be wrestling Alberto confirmed that he will, but as he’s been saying over the past few weeks, he plans on taking on a much lighter schedule.

“It’s going to be really difficult, but not impossible. Of course my main priority is, and will be Combate Americas. I have the most important role of my career in this moment, but I will be also being doing some wrestling shows. I will be wrestling probably just once a week. I don’t plan on doing a lot of shows as I was doing when I was in the other company. I will just be doing one per week, and sometimes not even that. Again, my priority is Combate Americas, and to make this company a great company.”

During his first run with WWE Del Rio feuded with CM Punk for a while, and he says that he’s still friends with Punk. When asked if he would be interested in bringing Punk in to fight for Combate Americas, Del Rio said he would love to have him.

“I would love to have him in Combate Americas. He’s actually one of my best friends in the business. We spoke before and after his fight. I know he’s getting a lot of haters, a lot of people are criticizing what he did in his first fight, but we got to give him some credit. He went and tried it and did the transition from pro wrestling to MMA. He had the cojones to do it.”

CM Punk made his MMA debut earlier this year when he fought Mickey Gall at UFC 203. Unfortunately for Punk the fight didn’t last very long, and he lost his first high profile fight. Alberto commented on his MMA debut saying that he believes Punk will come back even better.

“I know a lot of people are saying he didn’t do well, but I think he did well. It was his first fight, it was his first experience, and especially when you do it in the biggest MMA company in the world, it was not an easy night for CM Punk. I think he needs to do it again, he needs to train a little bit more, and I’m pretty sure he’s going to learn from that mistake in the first fight. He will come back even better.”
