Friday night AJ Styles shocked the world when he defeated Kevin Owens for the United States Championship at the WWE live event at Madison Square Garden. AJ Styles recently won an Independence Day Battle Royal on SmackDown Live to earn the right to face Kevin Owens for the belt at the Battleground pay-per-view later this month, so most fans didn’t expect him to win the title so soon.
Titles don’t change hands at live events very often, but certainly winning the US Title at Madison Square Garden was a huge moment for AJ’s career despite the fact that it wasn’t televised.
Sportskeeda is reporting that WWE officials are planning to release an AJ Styles DVD in six months, and they felt that AJ needed another big moment in his career that they could showcase on the DVD. With AJ’s WWE Championship win having taken place over 9 months ago, the US Title win adds another significant moment toward the end of the running feature.
It looks like the title win will likely be a key feature on the DVD when it’s released, and the match itself could be added as an extra as well.
Furthermore, WWE likes a non televised title change to take place every 2 to 3 years in order to make it look like anything can happen at a WWE live event at any time.
