Nothing great can last forever especially if it’s Phenomenal. AJ Styles is the WWE Champion at this point in his career and looks great holding a title he’s worked very hard to earn. But apparently, his retirement could be just around the corner.
AJ Styles recently spoke to 97.9 The Box where he hinted very strongly that his retirement was on the way by saying: “Work hard now, you enjoy it later. In a couple of years, I’ll be able to catch every football game, every baseball game, every basketball game, cheerleading, gymnastics, whatever they’re in.”
The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted AJ Styles has hinted in the past that he would like to retire at 42-years-old. Since The Phenomenal One is 40 at this point, that doesn’t seem too far off being only two years away.
Meltzer said in The Observer that although there are people who have really walked away from the business like Shawn Michaels it is a rarity for someone to fully give it up. Others have remained around while just working a lighter schedule like Randy Orton and the list could really go on from there.
AJ Styles’ contract is set to expire in early 2019, therefore it would certainly fall in line with that 42-year-old retirement goal that he has previously projected for himself. Styles is making a lot of money and doing quite well in his current role, therefore, a compromise could always be reached before his contract actually expires.
But at this rate, AJ Styles seems pretty certain that he wants to be able to take it easy and enjoy life with his family. Only time will tell on this one, but it has to be a general consensus that nobody really wants to see AJ Styles hang up his boots for good, especially so soon.
