When AJ Styles won the United States Title at a House Show in Madison Square Garden people lost their minds. Everyone was wondering what was going on in that situation. There were false reports Kevin Owens was injured, had backstage heat, or might even be taking a hiatus. Then again, some people just assumed WWE wanted more eyes on their live events.
The Phenomenal One AJ Styles recently spoke to Edge and Christian on E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness where he had a great time on the show. Edge and Christian are excellent hosts and have a way with their guests. It also helps that their guests are already friends of theirs. During the interview, AJ went into a little bit of detail about whose call it was to make the United States Title switch in the world’s most famous arena.
“To me, it’s smart. It’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time and to do it at Madison Square Garden and everybody with WWE knows that’s a big deal. I think it was awesome. I think it was very clever and I loved it,” Styles said via WrestlingInc. “There was a pop, ‘he won! Yes!’ but, ‘well, who’s going to walk out there?’ and then, there was another pop because nobody walked out there. It was really cool, but it was smart to not do that every year, but every couple of years to do something like that. I think it just came down to doing something different and it was Vince’s call and no one else’s. And yeah, it was great.”
Later on, AJ Styles was asked who he would like to lock horns with down the line in WWE. Styles’ response might surprise some people but when you think about it AJ Styles could wrestle a mop and make it a good match as long as nobody changes the finish in the middle of it.
“I have yet to wrestle Rusev and I think that would be really fun, to wrestle a guy like him. But there are guys on the RAW side that I haven’t really been in the ring with like Seth Rollins and Finn Bálor. I think people want to see. I’ve never worked Shinsuke Nakamura on US soil, so that could be a big deal as well.”
