AJ Styles officially retired from in-ring competition when he was defeated by Gunther at the Royal Rumble back in January, which means we won’t be seeing The Phenomenal One at WrestleMania this year.
Recently Styles reflected on some of his best matches on the Phenomenally Retro Podcast, and he explained why he considers his match with Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 33 to be his best WrestleMania match.
“Here’s another thing, the best WrestleMania match I had was against Shane McMahon. Yep, it was. You’ve got Shane, who is a perfectionist, he wants it perfect, and man, I get that. We just so happened to be able to place things where they should be in the storyline we had going into it, and it made it a perfect match.”
That is quite the declaration from AJ Styles considering he faced some huge names on the Grandest Stage of Them All such as The Undertaker, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and Edge. It seems that many fans share his opinion though as AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 33 is considered by many fans to be AJ’s best WrestleMania match.
