AJ Styles made his big return to Friday Night SmackDown last week and he made it clear that he was looking to rebuild his legacy. It wasn’t long before The Phenomenal One was confronted by Carmello Hayes, and shortly after they ended up facing off in a singles match.
At one point during the match it looked like AJ Styles injured his ankle and he started favoring his leg. As Styles was holding his leg the referee called for the bell then the match came to an end.
Following SmackDown it was reported by Fightful Select that AJ Styles’ injury was an angle and that he was fine. However, Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com is reporting that the injury is legitimate and AJ Styles will be getting an MRI.
“The AJ Styles injury on Friday was legit and not part of a storyline. He’s getting an MRI to assess the severity of it,” Meltzer wrote.
AJ’s match with Carmelo Hayes was his first televised match on WWE programming since he challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisptued WWE Championship in an I Quit match at Clash at the Castle back in June.
Stay tuned for updates on AJ’s status as they become available.
