AJ Styles debuted with WWE at the Royal Rumble back in 2016, and he quickly became one of the top stars in the company. Recently there’s been a lot of talk about AJ’s contract status on social media, but it looks like the former WWE Champion will be with the company for the foreseeable future.
Fightful Select is reporting that people familiar with the situation have stated that those close to AJ Styles claimed he said he signed a one year contract extension with WWE. At this point in time there’s no word on when the contract extension was signed, or when it’s set to expire.
Originally in 2024 it was reported that AJ Styles’ WWE contract was set to expire soon. However, AJ Styles suffered an injury in October of 2024 that kept him sidelined until he returned at the Royal Rumble earlier this year on February 1st. The belief is that enough time has passed that his original deal would have been up by now.
WWE has not officially announced a contract extension for The Phenomenal One, and neither AJ Styles nor WWE have confirmed the report in an official capacity. The claims regarding AJ signing an extension come from people close to him, not from WWE itself.
Styles previously signed a contract with WWE in 2019 and claimed on the Chasing Glory podcast with Lilian Garcia that he was planning to retire with WWE.
“I had no doubt that you know this is what I was going to do for my career. It really was. And you couldn’t have told me any different. And I can tell you that the contract that I signed, here in the WWE, is my last. This is it for me. This is where I’m going to end my career no matter what happens. I got to, you know? I want to be there for my kids,” Styles said.
AJ Styles has been regularly featured on WWE programming recently and is currently feuding with Dominik Mysterio. Originally Dominik was set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against AJ at Night of Champions, but Dominik Mysterio was pulled from the show due to injury. Styles is still expected to challenge Dominik for the title when he is cleared, and it’s rumored that the match could take place at SummerSlam in August.
