AJ Styles Plays Up Rumors Of A Match With Shawn Michaels

The Royal Rumble will be returning to the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX for the first time in 20 years in January of 2017. The last time the big event took place at the Alamodome Shawn Michaels won the WWE World Championship, and now AJ Styles is playing up rumors of a big match with HBK at the Royal Rumble on Twitter.

Styles recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about a possible match with Michaels, and he noted that he would love to face him at the Royal Rumble, but as of right now any rumors regarding HBK’s return to the ring are just that, rumors.

Shawn Michaels wrestled his last match in a WWE ring at WrestleMania 26. After failing to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25, Michaels put his career on the line for a shot at challenging The Undertaker again, but he was defeated.

AJ Styles vs. Shawn Michaels would certainly be a dream come true for the fans, but it remains to be seen if it will evolve beyond anything other than a rumor. With the Royal Rumble returning to the Alamodome it’s not hard to see why WWE would want Michaels on the card. They have a lot of seats to fill, and HBK is a big name that would definitely sell tickets in Texas.

Shawn Michaels has indicated in the past that he’s not interested in ever getting back in the ring, but as we all know, when it comes to the wrestling industry you can “never say never.”

Would you like to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement to face AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble next year, or would you rather he stay retired? Sound off in the comments below.
