AJ Styles has found major success since making the jump to WWE in 2016, and The Phenomenal One has managed to capture the WWE Championship twice so far.
His first reign was ended by John Cena in 2017, and Daniel Bryan went on to defeat AJ and become WWE Champion in November of 2018.
Daniel Bryan then went on to face Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs. Champion match at Survivor Series, something AJ Styles had done the year before.
AJ Styles shared his thoughts on why WWE had him drop the title to Bryan during a recent Twitch stream, and he noted he thinks WWE officials wanted to avoid booking a rematch.
“I think the reason why you saw that happen was because you already saw Brock Lesnar / AJ Styles and — oh man, I’m just not going to go there … Not you guys, I’m sure you guys would like to have seen the rematch of AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar but [WWE] didn’t think anyone else would.”
