AJ Styles has been one of WWE’s top stars for years now, but when rumors of his impending WWE debut started making the rounds back in 2016 fans had a lot of questions.
When talents sign with WWE some are allowed to keep their name, while others are told they can keep their name, so naturally fans wondered if AJ Styles would still be AJ Styles when he arrived in WWE.
Styles recently opened up about his negotiations with WWE while streaming on his Mixer channel, and he said that Triple H told him that he might have to change his name.
“When I signed, or was looking to sign with WWE, Triple H was like, ‘Hey man, [you] may not be able to keep ‘AJ Styles.’ We may have to give you another name.’ I said, ‘No problem with that. It’s just I have this huge tattoo on my side that says ‘AJ’. But I’m totally cool with whatever you guys wanna do. I don’t care, not a big deal to me.’”
Luckily everything worked out in the end, and AJ got to keep his name. He has since gone on to become a 2 time WWE Champion, and a 3 time United States Champion.
Styles recently made his return to WWE programming on Raw this week, and he earned a spot in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
