AJ Styles has been the WWE Champion for quite some time, and Brock Lesnar has also had a lengthy reign with the Universal Championship.
Styles consistently defends his title, but Brock Lesnar’s title defenses have been few and far between.
Last weekend during San Diego Comic Con, AJ spoke to Noelle Foley about Brock’s reign, and he said that the fact that he hasn’t defended the belt is on WWE.
“I don’t care what anybody says, Brock Lesnar is what we call a draw,” Styles said via ProWrestling.com. “People they come to see Brock Lesnar and the fact that he hasn’t defended in a while, that’s on WWE. That’s on Kurt Angle and everybody else who has anything to do with it. I do what I do. I’m a fighting Champion like you said, I’m gonna defend my Championship, I’m gonna give the Championship the respect it deserves.”
Styles was also asked if he’s trying to top CM Punk’s historic title reign, but he noted that topping Punk’s reign is not one of his goals.
“Not really. I just have my sights set on retaining the Championship. The guys I’m going up against are freaking amazing, so Rusev, guys coming back, Randy Orton I guess he’s all better since he’s beating up Jeff Hardy. So there’s a lot of guys I’m gonna have to compete with, just hoping to retain.”
