AJ Styles challenged Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Championship at Backlash, and after weeks of buildup, the hype was at an all time high for their match.
The first half of the match was even for the most part, but AJ got the upper hand after he attacked Dean’s left leg. AJ focused on the leg for the rest of the match, and locked in the Calf Crusher several times as Ambrose sold a possible injury.
Ambrose eventually got his momentum back and he took Styles to the outside and they battled into the crowd.
The action returned to the ring and AJ Styles hit Dean Ambrose with a low blow while the referee wasn’t looking. Styles followed up with a Styles Clash for the win.
