Dean Ambrose successfully defended the WWE World Championship against Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam, and we saw the fallout from the match on SmackDown Live. At the beginning of the show AJ Styles talked trash to Dolph Ziggler and the two brawled.
AJ came out for a promo later in the show and said that he deserved to be the number 1 contender because he defeated John Cena at SummerSlam. Dolph Ziggler then came out and argued that he deserved another shot at the title.
SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan then got on the mic and agreed that AJ Styles does deserve to be the number 1 contender. He announced that Styles would face Dolph Ziggler in the main event, and if Ziggler won, he would be added to the title match at Backlash.
Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles faced off in a hard hitting match in the main event on SmackDown Live this week, and Dean Ambrose made his way to the commentary table to observe from ringside.
In the end it was AJ Styles who defeated Dolph Ziggler with the Styles Clash to secure himself a one on one match with Dean Ambrose at Backlash.
After the match AJ Styles taunted Dean Ambrose and the two had a stare down to end the show.
