Over the weekend CM Punk won the AEW World Championship in the main event at All Out, and then he proceeded to go off on Colt Cabana, Adam Page, MJF and the AEW EVPs during the post-show media scrum. It was later reported that CM Punk and Ace Steel were involved in a physical altercation with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks after the press conference.
Tony Khan kicked off Dynamite this week and announced that the AEW World Championship and AEW Trios Championship have been vacated. Tony announced that new AEW Trios Champions will be crowned tonight when Death Triangle faces Best Friends.
Khan then announced that a tournament will be held to crown a new AEW World Champion. Adam Page and Bryan Danielson will face off in the first round of the tournament tonight with the winner going on to face Chris Jericho in the semifinals next week. Sammy Guevara will also face Darby Allin in a first round match on Rampage with the winner of that match going on to face Jon Moxley next week in the semifinals.
The winners of each semifinal match will then go on to face off at AEW Grand Slam in two weeks on September 21. Tony did not say anything regarding suspensions or disciplinary action regarding the talents who were involved in the backstage fight. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
