Unfortunately the AEW roster has had to deal with a noticeable amount of injuries this year that have caused the company to change their plans. Current AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa is out of action due to injury, and Toni Storm was crowned interim AEW Women’s Champion in her absence.
On Thursday, Tony Khan spoke about the title situation in AEW during the Full Gear media call and he noted that stripping Thunder Rosa of the AEW Women’s Championship is something that’s been considered.
“It’s something we have considered,” Khan said. “It’s something to consider. I’m still weighing the pros and cons. Thunder Rosa’s a great wrestler, and it’s unfortunate that she’s injured. It’s kept her out a long time. It’s not an easy situation,” Khan added, “and I try to take everything on a case-by-case basis, and am trying to give Thunder Rosa every opportunity to come back and defend the championship. But eventually, you would have to crown a lineal champion.”
There’s currently no timetable for Thunder Rosa’s return to AEW, so it will be interesting to see what Tony Khan does with the title moving forward. Stay tuned for updates.
