Vince McMahon recently issued a new edict declaring that talents must stop using third party services such as Twitch and Cameo by October 2, or else they could be fined, suspended or terminated.
The edict has been met with a lot of backlash from within the wrestling world and beyond, and after FTR defeated Adam Page and Kenny Omega to become the new AEW Tag Team Champions at All Out they referenced the new edict.
The team did a backstage interview where they bragged about their victory, and at the end Dax Harwood asked Cash Wheeler if he wanted to sign up for Cameo.
Wheeler then responded by saying that he’s going to buy a Nintendo 64 and sign up for Twitch.
Kip Sabian also cut a promo at All Out while holding a sign plugging his Twitch channel, and a message was shown at the bottom of the screen which said, “this message has been approved by All Elite Wrestling.”
WWE recently issued the following statement regarding the new edict:
“Much like Disney and Warner Bros., WWE creates, promotes and invests in its intellectual property, i.e. the stage names of performers like The Fiend Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Big E and Braun Strowman. It is the control and exploitation of these characters that allows WWE to drive revenue, which in turn enables the company to compensate performers at the highest levels in the sports entertainment industry. Notwithstanding the contractual language, it is imperative for the success of our company to protect our greatest assets and establish partnerships with third parties on a companywide basis, rather than at the individual level, which as a result will provide more value for all involved.”
