The AEW All Out pay-per-view changed the direction of the company in a number of ways as CM Punk won the AEW World Championship in the main event and earlier in the night The Firm secured a title shot for a mystery man when they handed him the poker chip from the Casino Ladder match.
The mystery man turned out to be MJF, and it seemed that MJF was set to feud with CM Punk. However, Punk has not appeared on AEW programming since All Out as he was injured during the main event and involved in a physical altercation with The Elite after the show.
Stokely Hathaway recently talked about original plans for Punk on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, and he claimed that Punk is no longer with the company. He also claimed that originally The Firm was supposed to feud directly with CM Punk.
“Everything that was supposed to happen with The Firm did not happen. Back at All out, what happened immediately after the Pay-Per-View, that was a huge part of it. Who we were supposed to directly feud with is no longer in the company. That was one thing I was looking forward to because I was hand-chosen for that role. I’m just going to say it. I don’t know the specifics about people choosing sides. I just know that CM Punk said ‘hey, I want to work with this guy.’ That means a lot, regardless of what has happened. Everyone in the group is trying to do their best.”
