Recently there’s been a lot of talk about backstage drama in All Elite Wrestling, and it was recently reported that Malakai Black had requested his release. Originally it was reported that his release request was not granted, but now Fightful Select is reporting that Black is effectively done with AEW for now.
According to the report many talents have been told that Malakai Black is done with AEW for the foreseeable future with many saying that his release request was granted.
It was noted that the release is highly conditional, which isn’t usually the case for AEW. Releases in AEW are done on a case by case basis and usually the company doesn’t release people outside of disciplinary reasons.
Many in the company noted that Tony Khan hoped to keep Black and have him be part of the brand for years to come. AEW made efforts to keep Malakai Black, and it was believed that their efforts were fruitful, but recently a meeting was held and a decision was made to let him go if that’s what he wanted.
Talent believe that there are heavy restrictions on Black including possible conditions that would prevent him from wrestling elsewhere any time soon. It’s also being said that the door isn’t closed for a potential AEW return for Malakai Black.
