The wrestling world has changed a lot since AEW first launched in 2019, and many former WWE stars have joined the company. Last year Cody Rhodes made a big move when he parted ways with AEW then returned to WWE and it seems that there could be more AEW stars who are interested in making the jump.
Dave Meltzer addressed the topic of AEW stars possibly leaving for WWE on Wrestling Observer Radio while noting that WWE hasn’t been aggressive about pursuing AEW wrestlers because of their lawsuit with MLW. Meltzer didn’t reveal a specific name, but noted that at least one talent is interested in going to WWE.
“WWE is very, very leery because of the MLW lawsuit, so they’re not making… if that MLW lawsuit wasn’t there, WWE – and it’s not just these guys (the Elite), there’s other guys that this relates to, that have interest at least in hearing from WWE and in one case interested in going to WWE – and WWE has been uncharacteristically not aggressively trying to steal talent. Unless somebody’s contract is actually over, because of that MLW lawsuit.
“If it was two years ago in this situation, would they not go in there and go, ‘Hey, we’ll offer you millions and millions of dollars, make the move when your contract’s up’. Right now I don’t think that they would do that. They might, but I don’t think so.”
MJF has openly stated that he would be interested in going to WWE in 2024 if the company offers him more money than AEW. It’s also been reported that The Elite have been in contract negotiations with AEW as well because their deals are set to expire early next year.
