Business has been picking up in the TNT Championship scene over the last few months and Wardlow ended up dropping the belt to Samoa Joe during the Full Gear pay-per-view back in November.
Wardlow got his chance to regain the TNT Championship when he challenged Samoa Joe for the belt at New Year’s Smash, but Joe ambushed Wardlow backstage before the match when he hit him in the leg with a pipe. Joe continued to target the leg during the bout and he also attacked Wardlow then cut his hair once the match had concluded.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Wardlow dropped the title due to an injury. The angle with Samoa Joe attacking his leg was done to set up Wardlow taking time off from AEW.
It’s not clear at this point in time when Wardlow could be returning, but it’s being reported that the injury is not believed to be something that will keep him out of action for a long time. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
