CM Punk’s run with All Elite Wrestling ended in controversy back in September when Tony Khan announced that Punk’s AEW contract had been terminated following a backstage incident at All In. Punk returned to WWE over the weekend at Survivor Series and many people in the wrestling world are still processing his return.
During a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast current AEW announcer Jim Ross shared his opinion on Punk’s return and he praised Triple H for his decision to bring Punk back.
“It was a perfect booking decision. It was a great creative move. And, Your Honour, my evidence is the fact that can you hear the pop? Can you see? Cause it was sustained chaos. And for the wrestling fan. Hey, look, I guarantee you there’s a lot of AEW fans at Survivor Series. They’re wrestling fans, they don’t have this brand bulls*** where I am only you’re going to sport one brand. So you must not really be a wrestling fan. Right? How could you be a wrestling fan and not be happy for the success of others within your industry? I don’t get it.
So anyway, It was a great booking good judgement by Paul Levesque a perfect end to the show. And for all I got to say, the whole damn thing is I didn’t see it live admittedly. I was probably napping, or watching football or something. Phil’s a friend, and I don’t know, didn’t always agree with him, or I certainly agreed with him more than not on some of his issues. But I really, I don’t know, man, he’s just a friend. I’m happy for my friends that find success in their chosen vocation.
So, I wish him the best of luck on his journey. Or, you know, hell, I don’t agree with all the s*** that went on with him. You know, I think he could have handled it a little differently. As it probably everybody could go back and look at it in hindsight. But bottom line is he left and he was a great get timely. I love the surprise. I just saw my timeline blow up. And I had to go look. Of course, there was all over social media. And it was cool. And the announcers laid out. I thought that was smart, timely.”
