AEW Double or Nothing aired live from Las Vegas on Saturday night, and leading up to the pay-per-view there were many fans who were hoping to see former WWE Champion CM Punk make a surprise appearance.
Punk continuously denied that he would be appearing at Double or Nothing, and he stayed true to his word as he wasn’t part of the show.
Even though CM Punk walked away from wrestling five years ago there are still people out there who are hoping to see him return, and after Double or Nothing AEW President Tony Khan confirmed to the media that Punk was on his list of talents he wanted to build the company around.
Ultimately CM Punk didn’t end up joining the company, but Khan noted that he has a good relationship with him.
“I love Phil, Phil’s great. I mean, I have a good relationship with Phil, I think he’s awesome. He was not here, as you saw, I think that’s not the story of the show. That would be a real insult to what we’ve all done to make that the story of the show.”
