Last year at WrestleMania, Chris Jericho defended the United States Championship against his former friend Kevin Owens, and in the end it was Owens who walked out with the gold.
Jericho’s last run with WWE was arguably the best run of his career, but unfortunately fans won’t be seeing him at WrestleMania this year because he’s scheduled to perform with his band Fozzy at a concert in Hampton Beach, NH.
WrestleMania won’t be the same without Jericho, but the card is loaded and it’s also set to feature the first ever WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.
Originally the battle royal was promoted as the Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal, but the name was changed due to backlash from fans stemming from Moolah’s past.
Chris Jericho recently revealed on Talk Is Jericho that he actually pitched a different name for the match to Vince McMahon, but it looks like Vince decided not to go with it.
“I actually texted Vince and said, ‘You should call it the Sensational Invitational’ and name it after Sherri Martel. He sent me a “thx” back. ‘Thanks.'”
Following the controversy surrounding the original announcement it’s not hard to see why WWE officials decided not to attach anyone’s name to the battle royal. But you have to give credit where credit is due, Jericho’s idea was a pretty solid suggestion.
