It came as a huge surprise last month when it was announced that Chris Jericho would be facing IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4, 2018 at the Tokyo Dome.
It is set to be a huge show and one that many fans have claimed WWE will somehow have to try to outshine when they present WrestleMania just three months later.
Chris Jericho is currently on a break from WWE as he tours with his band Fozzy ahead of a potential return to the company, but it seems that it could be pushed back somewhat now that he is scheduled to face arguably the best wrestler in the world in Tokyo next month.
Jericho himself revealed that his contract with WWE had expired when he was approached about the match but out of respect he did reach out to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and he gave him a supportive response. It seems that WWE COO Triple H also responded in a supportive manner when he was asked about the match during an appearance on the CBS Sports “In This Corner Podcast.”
He said: I think it’s great. Good for Chris, it’s phenomenal. Good for Kenny, good for New Japan. We were aware. That was a conversation that was had.”
Jericho and Triple H have had their own fair share of ups and downs over the past few years, but it seems that The Game is still backing the longtime WWE star.
He continued: “It’s great, it’s good for him, Chris is one of the greatest talents in the history of the business, so I think it’s great. Good product is good product. I’m happy for them, happy for Chris and happy for everybody.”
