When Finn Balor was called up to the WWE main roster in 2016, it seemed that he was going to be a big player on Monday Night Raw, but an injury set him back and he hasn’t been able to reach main event status since making his return earlier this year.
It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Finn Balor challenge for a major belt any time soon, as Sports Illustrated claims that contrary to recent reports, Balor was never even being considered for a Universal Championship match with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.
It’s also being reported that Vince McMahon sees Finn Balor as “bland” when he’s not playing “The Demon” character on TV.
Balor has been lost in the shuffle for most of 2017, and SI notes that he seems to be transitioning into the Dolph Ziggler role where he consistently puts on great matches but rarely sees any reward from the office.
Balor was a top star in NXT, but it looks like he might might have to do something to freshen up his character in order to get the opportunities he seeks.
At this point Brock Lesnar’s opponent for the 2018 Royal Rumble is unknown, so stay tuned for updates.
Balor’s cool. Vince? Vince, it’s time to step away.
