Rey Mysterio ended his 13 year run with WWE in 2015, and many fans were sad to see him go, but he’s been keeping busy that’s for sure.
Since his departure Rey Mysterio has been embracing his lucha roots by working with Lucha Underground, and recently there’s been talk of a talent exchange between Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion spoke to Sports Illustrated about his thoughts on Impact, and he says he’s willing to work with the promotion under the right circumstances.
“I was actually in conversations a while back with Impact about doing some shows,” said Mysterio. “To be honest with you, it’s not that I don’t want to go work for them, it’s just like I didn’t have it in my game plan. I also didn’t have Lucha Underground in my game plan before it was created. If the circumstances were right, I wouldn’t mind going. I’m not interested in signing a contractual deal, but I would love to do some shows. People want to see diversity in their opponents and fans want to see their dream matches. If people want to see a match-up, let’s make it happen.”
Rey Mysterio has wrestled all over the world and he’s considered by many to be one of the greatest high flyers of all time.
With Impact Wrestling letting Cody Rhodes come and go as he pleases, it’s certainly not unheard of for the company to let talent work on a per appearance basis without signing an exclusive contract.
Perhaps we’ll see Rey Mysterio in the six sided ring someday competing for the X-Division Championship.
