A few years ago Drew McIntyre was released from WWE, but instead of sitting around and feeling sorry for himself, he hit the independent circuit, and he hit it hard. Drew made a name for himself during his time away from WWE, and he managed to capture several championship belts in the process.
Drew has been part of some incredible moments throughout his career, but the former Intercontinental Champion told The Scottish Sun that his recent return topped them all.
“I’ve had some incredible moments but that might have topped them all. The fans know my history and my story the past few years and to hear that response — my mind is absolutely blown. A part of me always knew I’d end up back home, I grew up here in WWE from the ages of 21 to 29 and did great things around the world.”
Sometimes when a wrestler gets released some WWE, they have a tough time moving on to the next stage of their career, but Drew seemed to do just fine. McIntyre says that he reinvented himself during his time away from WWE, and now he feels fortunate because he doesn’t have to play a character.
“I remember The Rock saying if you’re the hardest worker in the room anything is possible and my motto is work harder than everyone else. I’ve been very fortunate — not many people have left WWE and then had the chance to reinvent themselves. But it’s a business and I’m a businessman — and they had the opportunity and it was the right time to come together again. Back in the day I would get a character but now I have the freedom to be myself. Nothing changes with me and the fans and I’m always just Drew, no matter what.”
I am so happy he’s back!
Me too, can’t wait to see what he does in NXT!
