WWE has made no qualms about taking over the world. They’re very good at it in fact. There’s been obvious movement in the direction of scooping up all the best United Kingdom talent for a light heavyweight and UK based show. There have been rumors about WWE contacting the best women in the independent circuits around the world, and Triple H said their goal is to make a tournament happen by summer.
The company previously signed Kairi Hojo earlier this month to a 3-year-deal, and now it looks like they’re moving closer to getting an even bigger name from the Japanese Stardom promotion. According to the Wrestling Observer, Io Shirai was at the WWE Performance Center for a tryout.
WWE.com posted an article about the Japanese champion of Stardom trying out today, but they have since taken the article down. Dave Meltzer reported Hojo and Sharai were being scouted to come to WWE, and while Kairi signed and it was publically announced it looked like Io isn’t far behind.
The Observer noted there were plenty of others at the tryout, but Io Shirai is certainly the most decorated. Other participants of the tryout included Norwegian wrestlers Kira and Natasja, Texas-based indie wrestler Delilah Doom, Mexican wrestler Chik Tormenta, MMA fighter and championship kickboxer Katsiaryna Kavaleva, Olympic freestyle wrestler Jaime Espinal, as well as former Impact Wrestling star and also the son of Gerald Brisco: Wes Brisco.
It certainly looks like they’re still coming up plenty more cogs to keep the WWE machine running for years to come.
