Lucha Underground built up a pretty solid fanbase during the first season. The show certainly sets itself apart from other wrestling shows out there because it presents itself more as an over the top TV show that features awesome wrestling, rather than a wrestling program that wants to be a TV show.
Anyway the over the top formula was a big success for season 1 and it sounds like the company is going to go even further into uncharted wrestling territory in season 2. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the goal for season 2 is to go in a more supernatural direction and there’s even been rumors of some sort of space alien theme being incorporated. It’s also being reported that one of the longterm goals for the company is to build up a big babyface and/or a monster heel that they can use for a spin off TV show or movie.
We would be worried, but really the appeal of Lucha Underground is the fact that they can pull stuff like this off. Any show that can bring Mil Muertes back from the dead and still take itself seriously is a show worth watching. Bring on season 2!
