TNA’s status and the status of wrestling in general on Destination America has been surrounded by a lot of question marks this year. But some important personnel changes within the ranks of Destination America could mean good things for both ROH and TNA.
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Destination America General Manager Mark Etkind has left the netwrk to accept a position with The Science Channel. His replacement is Jane Latman. So why is this important? Because Etkind was the one who previously made the call to eliminate wrestling from the network.
It seems to just be speculation at this point but Jane Latman may have different feelings on the matter when she reviews all of the network’s programming because TNA and ROH do above the network average for ratings. However it’s been documented in the past that the ratings aren’t the problem but the cost involved in producing TNA is. It’s also said that wrestling is a very low priority at Destination America.
As of right now ROH’s deal with DA ends in December and TNA’s deal ends early next year. It remains to be seen if the change in personnel will mean good things for wrestling on Destination America, but it would seem that both shows could have a fighting chance of staying on the network depending on Latman’s opinion of the genre.
Well, maybe the fact that the viewership for ROH this week was up by almost 100,000 viewers from last week might help make this decision. ROH needs this exposure on a nationwide cable channel. People need to see that it’s the Best Wrestling On The Planet!
