Renee Young who was born Renee Paquette recently revealed to Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho that she had no idea WWE was going to be changing her name and she was a little heartbroken when she found out.
“I think it’s just a thing they do with everybody. I thought with me coming in as an announcer, it’s not like I’m going to have merchandise that they’re going to make money off of, but I think it’s just a rights thing. I definitely cried one time about changing my name. Now I kind of just deal with it.”
She also talked a little bit about why she chose the name Young and revealed that Neil Young was her inspiration for using the name.
“I got an e-mail that said Renee Sterling, and I kind of had a meltdown because I didn’t like it at all. It sounded like some weird sexy secretary. I gave them a bunch of different names to choose from and luckily they were lenient, and I landed on Young, after Neil Young.”
