WWE Fastlane has come and gone and it would appear that the stage is mostly set for WrestleMania 31. Feuds have been put into motion and the main event has been solidified. It might not have been a perfect pay-per-view but there’s certainly a lot to talk about coming out of it. Here are the 5 things we think WWE did right at Fastlane.
#5 – Giving Goldust The Win
The feud between Goldust and Stardust has been a long time coming but WWE may have pulled the trigger a little too quickly on the actual match. With that being said it makes a lot of sense for Goldust to get the win here. The whole point of the angle is to further Cody’s descent into the madness that is Stardust and the fact that he lost a match to his brother clearly didn’t sit well with him.
If Cody (oops Stardust) is going to play the heel going into WrestleMania 31 he needs to become even more frustrated/evil. A loss to Goldust gives him even more motivation to be angry and it makes his frustration more believable.
#4 – Coming Right Out And Letting The World Know That Bray Is Calling Out The Undertaker
For weeks Bray Wyatt has been delivering cryptic promos to the WWE Universe. We all knew and hoped that he was talking to The Undertaker but WWE had spent enough time beating around the bush. Last night they just came right out with it and it was beautiful. This move all but confirms that Taker will be wrestling at WrestleMania 31 and hype for his return is now at an all time high. We know that The Undertaker will be appearing at some point over the next few weeks and that gives everyone a reason to tune in as well as something to look forward to.
#3 – Letting Cesaro/Kidd Win The Tag Team Titles
The team of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd have a lot of support coming from WWE fans everywhere so it’s no surprise that WWE pulled the trigger on a WWE Tag Team Championship run with these two. They have great chemistry and the sky is certainly the limit for this team. Although they’re supposed to be the heels in their feud with The Usos, people were thrilled to see Cesaro and Kidd win which in turn made this the feel good moment of the night.
#2 – Allowing Sting To Get The Upper Hand Over Triple H Once Again
Sting arriving in WWE has been a long time coming and the powers that be have been wise to tread lightly with how they’ve used him so far. For a second it looked like Triple H was going to deliver a beating to Sting and that would have been a mistake. After all this time Sting needs to look untouchable heading into WrestleMania and at the moment he does. Sting has a certain mystique about him and seeing him carried out by referees after a brutal beating from Triple H would have done a lot of damage to that mystique.
Allowing Sting to walk out unharmed also builds a lot more anticipation for the moment that Triple H finally gets his hands on The Icon.
#1 – A Clean Finish For Roman Reigns And Daniel Bryan
There was no way that this match was going to please everyone but the best move WWE could have made was leaving the controversy out and ending it with a clean finish. A screwjob finish of some kind would have only left a glimmer of hope that Daniel Bryan might main event WrestleMania linger in the hearts of the fans. WWE let us know that they have no plans to let Bryan participate in the main event, so at least now the fans can move on instead of wondering.
Whether you agree with the choice of who’s main eventing WrestleMania 31 or not is one thing, but these two gave it all they had and the handshake ending was a nice touch.
