The wrestling world is unfortunately mourning the loss of another performer today as former WWWF and WWF wrestler “Wildman” Jack Armstrong (real name Leonard Ornstein) has passed away at the age of 79.
Today bodybuilder Laura Creavalle announced the passing of Jack Armstrong when she posted the following:
“As to my post a few days ago. I’m sorry to announce that I loosed my best friend Wild Man Jack Armstrong today. He was a great wrestler and and even better friend the stories are 2 many to share but he bought my first posing suit in LA and I lived with him for many years when I was a beginner struggling bodybuilder. Broke and homeless.”
A few days ago Laura Creavalle noted that Jack’s health was failing when she posted an update which said, “I m in LA after 19 yrs to b with my best friend Jack Armstrong , used to b a professional wrestle, his best friend was Rocky , the Rock ‘s father , they used to share rooms together when they were on the road. He has known the Rock since he was a baby. His health is failing so I have decide to come out hear to help . They had to remove one of his legs n he is on dialysis, but his sense of humour still stays. He is 79. I m hoping he makes it to 80. I m glad just to be here by his side.”
Jack Armstrong first started working with WWWF in the 60s and returned to the company under the WWF iteration in the 80s. Armstrong also wrestled for numerous other companies including AWA and Gene LaBell’s World Wrestling Alliance, which later became known as NWA Hollywood. He holds the distinction of being the first and only UWF Junior Heavyweight Champion.
In addition to his work inside the ring, Armstrong also appeared in a number of movies including Micki & Maude, Grunt! The Wrestling Movie, Bad Guys and more.
Our condolences go out to Jack Armstrong’s family, friends and fans.
