Under the current WWE regime a number of wrestlers have been able to branch out into the acting world, such as Drew McIntyre. WWE seems to be supportive when it comes to their wrestlers trying to establish themselves in Hollywood, but it wasn’t always that way.

When Vince McMahon was in charge of WWE it was much harder for wrestlers to get time off to do acting gigs, and Drew McIntyre recently joked during an appearance on Busted Open Radio that Vince used to threaten agents who offered him roles.

“Vince was very much like, ‘I need you here.’ To be fair, we had so many live events back in the day. My entire life, up until the past few years was wrestling wrestling every single week, 52 weeks a year, three times a week, minimum. We needed people who were bigger stars to advertise on the live events to sell those tickets.

I get it, but there were some big opportunities. I won’t say some names, but the biggest names of all and the biggest names of all time, Vince called and threatened to murder agents trying to get me into projects. [Laughs] He was very much in this mindset. Nick and Paul are in the mindset that if it makes sense and helps everybody, and helps my brand, which helps their brand. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Drew McIntyre has been away from WWE for six months now as he filmed Highlander alongside Henry Cavill earlier this year, and he also landed a role in The Last Druid alongside Russell Crowe. It’s not clear at this point when Drew will be back WWE TV.

Stay tuned for updates.
