Chelsea Green has been one of the more popular stars on the WWE SmackDown roster for some time now, and she took her career to the next level at SummerSlam when she became the interim WWE Women’s Champion.
Green’s comedy act has caught on with a number of fans, but she recently revealed during an appearance on the Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast that a year ago Triple H wanted her to go in a more serious direction with her character.
“About a year ago, I had a conversation with Hunter. We sat down and we talked about me going in a more serious direction. Literally the next week, I was put in a comedy spot that lasted like 30 seconds and I was pinned. I’m like, ‘Well, I fear we’re here to stay.’ And we never, him and I never spoke about it again. It’s such a funny conversation to think about because we were like, ‘Yeah, I’ll stop doing this, and I’ll stop doing that, and I’ll look more serious, and I’ll be more serious, and I’ll do my moves.’ And then I literally went and took the Jaded.”
“I feel like I found my niche. I found my lane. Why did I try to get out of the lane? The lane works. It’s my lane. I made the lane. I’m going to stay in the lane. I invite others to come in and try it, but at the end of the day, I know that what I do, I do it better than anyone else. That’s why it works. That’s why people believe it, and that’s why they turned me babyface naturally, because everyone was like, ‘Wait, this is so stupid. We like it. She’s so annoying. We like it.’”
Chelsea Green is expected to appear on Friday Night SmackDown this week as she celebrates her interim WWE Women’s Championship win at SummerSlam. Stay tuned for updates.
