Roman Reigns successfully defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam over the weekend, and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio approached him on the following episode of Raw.
Earlier this week Rey Mysterio announced that a tournament will be held which will feature the best luchadores from Raw, SmackDown and AAA, and the winner will challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at Raw in Mexico on September 14th. Rumors then emerged claiming that Roman would be facing off against El Grande Americano.
Bryan Alvarez recently shared an update on Roman’s opponent for Raw in Mexico on Wrestling Observer Live, and he noted that WWE has claimed The Tribal Chief will not be facing off against El Grande Americano at the event.
“WWE is claiming that it is not going to be Roman Reigns vs. El Grande. So, if El Grande is in the tournament they just spoiled their own tournament. Roman Reigns vs. Penta is possible for that Mexico City Raw they announced. Could be Dragon Lee. Some Mexican is gonna get the rub by losing to Roman Reigns they say.”
Roman Reigns will be returning to Raw in a few weeks as WWE recently confirmed The Tribal Chief for the following events:
Raw: 8/17 – Buffalo, NY
Raw/SmackDown: 8/28 – Cleveland, OH
Raw: 9/14 – Mexico City, Mexico
Raw: 10/5 – St. Louis, MO
Money in the Bank: 10/10 – New Orleans, LA
Stay tuned for updates.
