Every year WWE releases a number of wrestlers and last year the company decided to release Dakota Kai. The release was unexpected and it seems that no one was more surprised than Dakota Kai herself.
During a recent interview with Ring The Belle, Dakota Kai explained that she was caught off guard because she thought she was finally getting some traction in WWE.
“It was one of those things where I thought ‘I’m finally getting some traction, I got a new song’ and things like that, so it caught me off guard too.
At the end of the day, it is business, for better or for worse, and now I can just do what I love and go out there; I’ve got a whole bucket list of girlies I want to wrestle.”
Dakota Kai originally signed with WWE in 2016 and went on to compete in the Mae Young Classic in 2017. She went on to establish herself in the NXT women’s division and became one half of the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Raquel Rodriguez.
In April of 2022, Kai was released from her WWE contract, but she signed a new contract a few months later and returned at SummerSlam alongside Bayley and Iyo Sky as they formed Damage CTRL. During her run on the main roster she and Iyo Sky managed to become two time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
