Cody Rhodes has used multiple gimmicks throughout his wrestling career, but he has firmly established himself as The American Nightmare. The visuals associated with The American Nightmare have become familiar to millions, and it seems that the gimmick is something Cody intends to embrace even after he’s long gone.
During a recent appearance on Grave Conversations, Cody Rhodes declared that when he passes away he wants the wrestling world to show up to his funeral in full gear, and he also wants to be buried in his American Nightmare robe.
“I don’t know if you ever read this graphic novel, I consider it my favorite DC graphic novel of all time, a book called Identity Crisis. Identity Crisis has one of the greatest funeral scenes of all time, because all of them showed up in gimmick. Full gear.
“When my time comes, I want the wrestling world in full gimmick. Bury me in the American Nightmare Sandra Grey robe, bury me as I was. I spent so much time giving back to pro wrestling and taking from pro wrestling that I got to play a superhero, and I’d like to go out a superhero.”
Cody Rhodes is set to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther this week on SmackDown, and it was announced last week that Sami Zayn will be the special guest referee.
