After weeks of speculation Randy Orton’s mystery caller was finally revealed on Friday night when Pat McAfee returned to SmackDown. McAfee immediately turned heel when he attacked Cody Rhodes, then he went off on the current WWE product as he cut a promo while Randy Orton hit Cody with a chair.
McAfee told the fans that he doesn’t want to watch 5 foot 5 guys while Randy Orton is around, and WrestleMania tickets should not be available when Orton is around. He continued as he said that the product Cody is leading sucks, and Randy is going to save the business at WrestleMania.
Fightful Select is reporting that the response internally was mixed, but it’s being said that the company was well aware of the reaction online. Some people internally chalked the reaction up to “heat” while others reportedly said that it’s not the type of heat the company needs.
A number of people weren’t into the “this place sucks” angle of McAfee’s promo and feel that those type of promos rarely work in professional wrestling.
WWE sources had told WrestleVotes that Pat McAfee would be factored into plans recently. WWE sources also told Fightful that McAfee is factored into upcoming plans for WWE programming through WrestleMania.
