A few weeks ago a new WWE storyline kicked off when the company introduced a mystery caller angle into the Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes feud. During the most recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, the mystery caller was finally revealed to be Pat McAfee.

McAfee hit Cody Rhodes with a low blow and he cut a promo as Randy Orton decimated The American Nightmare with a steel chair. As McAfee explained his actions he said that that Attitude Era fans have been forgotten about, and he didn’t want to watch 5 foot 5 guys compete in an iron man match for no reason while Randy Orton is around. He declared that the business Cody is leading sucks, and Randy Orton is going to save the business at WrestleMania.

Bodyslam is reporting that Pat McAfee was the plan for the mystery caller reveal since right around the Elimination Chamber premium live event. According to the report the call to add McAfee to the storyline came directly from TKO.

Another source reportedly noted that Pat McAfee’s promo on Friday Night SmackDown was completely off script, which resulted in Cody Rhodes returning to the ring for a promo later in the show.

Following Pat McAfee’s promo, Cody Rhodes apologized to fans on social media then cut a fiery promo on SmackDown. Cody’s promo was reportedly not originally planned for SmackDown, and you can get more details on that here.
