WrestleMania 42 is only a few weeks away and several matches have been confirmed for the show over the last few weeks. More matches are expected to be added before the card is finalized, but it looks like WWE has dropped plans for at least one match.

For months now it’s been rumored that Original El Grand Americano and El Grande Americano would be facing off in a mask vs. mask match at WrestleMania 42, but that’s no longer the case. Bryan Alvarez shared an update on plans for the match on Wrestling Observer Live, and he noted that the company is saving the bout for AAA.

“Apparently the El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano match is going to happen for AAA. They’ve got a date booked for that match, so they’re not doing a mask vs. mask match between those two guys at WrestleMania. They’re saving that for AAA.”

Original El Grande Americano returned to the ring at the Royal Rumble and instantly kicked off a feud with El Grande Americano. The rivalry had been heavily featured on WWE programming in the weeks that followed and the two stars faced off on the 3/16 episode of Raw in a singles match that saw El Grande Americano pick up the win.

Both versions of El Grande Americano have also been working AAA events recently. At this point it’s not clear when the mask vs. mask match will take place, but given how popular El Grande Americano has become with the fans in Mexico it makes sense that WWE would want to save the matchf or AAA.
