Friday Night SmackDown aired live from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA this week and the show featured a big title match. The United States Championship Open Challenge continued and it was Sami Zayn who stepped up to challenge Carmelo Hayes for the belt.
After the opening segment the cameras cut to the backstage area where Nick Aldis was shown telling Trick Williams that he will be competing in a match at WrestleMania. Sami Zayn then approached Aldis and asked what he’s doing for WrestleMania. Aldis told Sami that unless something changes he doesn’t have anything for him. Sami walked away then turned around and dropped Trick. He followed up by telling Nick Aldis that he’s going to have a match at WrestleMania.
Before Sami Zayn vs. Carmelo Hayes kicked off the lights went and Trick Williams made his way out into the arena so he could watch the match from the ringside area.
Near the env of the match Carmelo Hayes went for Nothin’ But Net and Sami reversed it into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Trick Williams then got up and grabbed the United States Championship belt. Williams threw it into the ring and Sami picked it up. The referee took the belt from Sami and Trick jumped up on the apron as the ref was removing the belt from the ring. Trick tried to hit Sami as Carmelo pushed Sami into the ropes, but Sami ducked and Trick hit Carmelo instead.
Sami Zayn then followed up with the Helluva Kick on Carmelo Hayes to win the WWE United States Championship. After the match Sami confronted Nick Aldis and asked if he earned a match at WrestleMania. Aldis told Sami that he’s going to defend the title against Trick Williams at WrestleMania.
