There’s certainly no shortage of options for fans to watch nowadays and AAA Rey de Reyes aired live on March 14th. During the show Santos Escobar faced off against Original El Grande Americano, El Grande Americano and La Parka in a four way match to determine the number one contender for Dominik Mysterio’s AAA Mega Championship.
Ultimately El Grande Americano picked up the win to earn the title shot, but following the match everyone was talking about how Santos Escobar appeared to be off during the match, and now we know why.
Fightful Select is reporting that Santos Escobar was injured when he worked his match at AAA Rey de Reyes. It was noted that the injury became more aggravated during the match, and Escobar is currently set to undergo surgery on Thursday for a torn bicep.
Santos Escobar was originally injured when he was working Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. during the NXT live event tour on Royal Rumble weekend. At the time the belief was that it was an injury and not a tear.
After the four way match Escobar was a hot topic on social media due to his performance, but it was also rumored that he had been quietly moved to the alumni section on WWE’s website. It was later clarified that Santos Escobar was moved to the alumni section when his contract with the company expired last year, and he was never moved back to the official roster after he re-signed.
