This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw featured some big names as Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, CM Punk and AJ Lee all appeared on the show. Roman Reigns and CM Punk squared off in the main event segment and they went back and forth in a promo battle that got heated at the end of the show.
After trading verbal jabs back and forth for a few minutes, Roman Reigns called CM Punk old, which caused Punk to snap and attack Roman Reigns. WWE officials then separated them as the show went off the air.
Sources indicated to Bodyslam this was not the original creative direction for the main event segment involving CM Punk and Roman Reigns. According to the report the original plan was for Roman Reigns to respond to CM Punk’s line about his father with a darker response that would have seen him mention Larry.
Following his win at the Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns is set to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 in April. Their match is expected to be one of the two main events featured at the Show of Shows this year.
