Over the weekend AAA Rey De Reyes aired live and the show featured a big four way match. El Grande Americano, Original El Grande Americano, La Parka and Santos Escobar faced off to determine who would become the number one contender for the AAA Mega Championship in a match what was ultimately won by El Grande Americano.
Following the match Santos Escobar’s status with WWE came into question due to Escobar’s profile being featured in the alumni section on the WWE roster page. Fightful Select reports that Santos Escobar is still with WWE despite rumors that he was quietly moved to the alumni section on the company’s website.
It was noted that Santos Escobar has been featured on the alumni section of WWE’s website ever since his contract with the company originally expired last year. Escobar re-signed with WWE shortly after his deal expired, but he was never moved back to the roster page.
There was a lot of talk on social media about Escobar’s performance in the four way match at AAA Rey De Reyes on Saturday night. However, there’s no word on what contributed to his performance at the event.
In recent weeks it’s been said that Escobar wished that he was being used better and was actually utilized. Santos Escobar was fine with leaving WWE when his deal expired, but the company made a big play to sign him. He was reportedly signed for an amount that would be irresponsible not to feature him on TV. Moving forward he’s expected to continue working in AAA.
