AJ Styles has been one of the top stars in professional wrestling for decades now and he put his career on the line when he stepped into the ring with Gunther at the Royal Rumble on Saturday night. The Ring General managed to defeat The Phenomenal One, which seemingly means that AJ has wrestled his last match.
Following his retirement at the Royal Rumble a number of names have taken to social media to honor AJ Styles. Shane McMahon has quite the history with Styles as they faced off against one another at WrestleMania 33, and Shane paid tribute to the former WWE Champion when he posted the following:
“AJ Styles will go down in history as one of the greatest in ring performers ever!
Thank you for your friendship and giving it your absolute best to entertain us all every single time you stepped through the ropes. You set the bar for current and future talent, let’s see if they can reach it. Congratulations on a Phenomenal career. @ajstylesp1 @wwe”
After he was defeated by Gunther, AJ Styles took off his gloves and teased leaving them in the ring, but ultimately decided to put them back on before leaving. At this point it’s not clear what’s next for AJ as it’s been reported that he is not scheduled for Raw on Monday.
