Earlier this week AJ Styles demanded a rematch against Gunther and Gunther told Styles he could only have his rematch if he puts his career on the line at the Royal Rumble. AJ Styles agreed, and Nick Aldis followed up by inviting AJ to SmackDown in Montreal.
During the show Aldis told AJ that he saw Raw on Monday, and he questioned whether or not AJ really wants to put his career on the line when he faces Gunther. The Phenomenal One said that he’s not going to let Gunther decide when his time is up, but he has a feeling that’s not why Nick Aldis invited him to Montreal.
Shinsuke Nakamura then entered the room and asked AJ why he’s willing to lose everything. AJ told him that if he doesn’t step up to Gunther then he’s already lost. Nakamura insisted that AJ prove he’s still phenomenal before he steps into the ring with Gunther, and he challenged AJ to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Styles accepted and they both shook hands as Nick Aldis made the match official.
