Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, Drew McIntyre defeated Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion, and it was also announced that a series of qualifying matches would be held to determine who will be challenging for the title at the Royal Rumble.
Randy Orton and The Miz faced off in the first qualifying match of the night, and Miz attacked Orton from behind before the match officially kicked off. Orton ended up picking up the win when he hit The Miz with a RKO out of nowhere.
Matt Cardona faced off against Trick Williams in the second qualifying match and Williams secured the victory when he put Cardona away with the Trick Shot.
When Damian Priest went one on one with Solo Sikoa, Talla Tonga interfered, so the referee ejected him from the ringside area. Priest tried for South of Heaven, but the MFTs distracted him. Near the end of the match The Wyatt Sicks logo flashed on the screen then the lights went out. When they came back on The Wyatt Sicks were standing behind the MFTs. Uncle Howdy tried to get Bray Wyatt’s lantern back, but Solo attacked him. When Solo got back in the ring Priest connected with South of Heaven for the win.
In the SmackDown main event Sami Zayn pinned Ilja Dragunov after hitting him with the Helluva Kick. After the match Sami was attacked by Trick Williams as the show went off the air. Randy Orton, Trick Williams, Damian Priest and Sami Zayn will now go on to face off in a fatal four way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event and the winner will challenge Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble.
At one point during the show Jacob Fatu called out Cody Rhodes and The American Nightmare answered. They immediately started brawling and security had to pull them apart. It was announced after the commercial break that Nick Aldis booked Cody Rhodes vs. Jacob Fatu for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will air live from Montreal on January 24 and the current card can be seen below.
